CURRENT CONVERSATIONS:

Replacement for Burnett Seat on City Council

I was impressed by Rich Pepe's well reasoned comments in today's Pine Cone regarding a replacement to fill Jason Burnett's seat on the city council.

Smart Meters

Hi Jason,
I know you have received a lot of questions on where you stand on smart meters?
If you are elected mayor will there be anything you can do to stop the smart meters.
I called PGE right away to stop the installation of there smart meters and they said they wouldn't go in till July but they came in my yard without my permission in February even though they had it on record that I did not want them installed. And they say they can't take them out until they get back there ruling from the state of California.
I hope you are paying attention...people are not happy with the Smart meter situation.
Thank you for listening Bonne'

Scenic Drive traffic

When is some action going to be taken to make Scenic Drive one-way? On holiday weekends the cars back-up waiting to get around the sharp curve. Residents out for a walk often end up directing traffic to prevent head-on collisions. Why is this such a "big deal" when it is a safety issue that effects quality of life (enjoying a walk along the ocean) for both residents and visitors?

happy to know your intentons to run for Mayor

How do I get on board as your fighter for the election--Simply meaning as your supporter and thanks for your response on my earlier question

citizen advisory groups

for several years the city council and the planning board have asked the same old group of people on their input on several important issues.while we appreciate their efforts, its time that we expand the circle and get some new blood and stay in tune with the times. its almost true of you being elected as an outsider and doing a great job---thks

Would like to talk in person to run a Grant idea by you.

Also talk about Mayorship.

Oversite management of the Regional Water Project

I support your propostion that the three parties (and the undelying politcal influences) driving this complex project have the potential to become mis-directed because none has 'purely' the penisula's water ratepayers interest as a prime and enduring focus. Further, I recommend that both for plan A, and for a possible Plan B, that the Monterey Peninsula Water Management District be charged with the oversight and responsiblity to insure that all decisons are made to support the common intersts of the peninsula ratepayers.

Police Coffee Breaks & Meals

I've been watching the officers here for decades. They used to get their coffee downtown every morning. It was nice to see them and have chats about their jobs and what was happening in the City.

For the past several months, I have been seeing them gathering at the Crossroads Safeway nearly every morning. Doesn't it seem odd that they now leave the City to have coffee? Are there not several places downtown for them to support with their taxpayer funded paychecks? Also, what would the response time be for them should there be an emergency? Could it be an increased liability on the City?

I've also seen them quite often at Island Taco in the Crossroads during the evenings. Are there no aforadable options for dinner in town? I believe there are.

STREET MAINTENANCE BUDGET

Please tell me how much is being budgeted annually for street repair and maintenance. There are many problem areas that need more than the application of black tar. Your attention is directed to Click and Clack, the Monterey Herald auto mechanic columnists, reporting on the harm done to vehicles due to bad streets.

Meter installed without giving us a chance to say NO!

I was not given the opportunity to opt out of having the smart meter installed. I live in Oak Hills, Prunedale nevertheless I want to opt out of having my smart reader read by computer or however they are doing it. My PG&E bill went up about $65.00 since they put in the smart meter. I would like to go back to reading our meter like we have done for about 15 years. We never had a probklem when we read our meter. So how can I opt out of something they installed whether I wanted it or not? I would like to go to the Town Hall Meeting but my husband and I are disabled so we will not be able to attend. If you could get back to me via email on the procedure to opt out of the smart meter program, I would appreciate it!
Thanks for going to bat for those who don't want the smart meters!
